Though sports fan love him , it ’s undeniable that he reflect more than a few negative stereotype and those are finally getting call in out inSuicide Squad : Blaze .

InSuicide Squad : Blaze # 2by Simon Spurrier and Aaron Campbell , Captain Boomerang is choose away by the target that critically wounded Superman . While there ’s never a trunk shown , it ’s safe to take for granted that Boomerang can be seen as good as bushed give what happened to the Man of Steel . When the subjects of project Blaze reconvene with the Squad to celebrate none of them getting killed , someone points out " The drunk guy did n’t . Whatsisname . Captain Cultural Appropriation . " This would later be a case of dramatic irony asPeacemaker would go on to meet a dismal ending . However , the implied death of Digger highlight a problem . Boomerang is now a walking stereotype of Australian the great unwashed . From the thickheaded Australian accent to the fact that he apply boomerangs as weapons , he ’s a villain that has his roots in negative viewpoints that are about as exact as Crocodile Dundee . He ’s nothing more than the American idealization of Australia .
What ’s even worse though is that he does n’t exactly exit the comic in a graceful light . This combined withCaptain Boomerang ’s death inDC Vs . Vampires , prove that DC is treating him as something of a joke . It all highlights several nasty stereotype about Australians , specifically in carnal knowledge to inebriant . In multiple version , Digger ’s shown drunkenness always . When he ’s carried away inBlaze , he throw away a can that he was drinking before being pulled to his death . Mike even call him " the drunk guy , " show that he ’s mostly make love for his drinking habits . This has become ahugenegative stereotype because it implies that Australians are drunks and foolish , which just is n’t the case . It ’s a stereotype that has been used in multiple soda water finish show and movies , and Boomerang is doing the image no favour . Digger has become something of a joke recently , with evenSuicide Squaddirector David Ayer saying Captain Boomerang is a Brony . All of it does a ill service to a character that devotee care about .
This is n’t to say that Boomerang is a unfit lineament . He can be think of depending on the authorship . Still , this does not mean that the darker side of his fibre should be overlooked . In fact , taking a tone at the more problematic root of Boomerang could be used to make the grapheme better in the futurity . ring out the problem with the fictional character inSuicide Squad : Blazeis a good get-go , but there ’s still a lot more to be done to move pastCaptain Boomerang ’s more debatable elements to make him a more likable antihero in the future .
