Though the hero goes by Shazam now , there is n’t a comic lover that is n’t at least passingly familiar with the biggest controversy for the World ’s Mightiest Mortal . Because of legal battles and trademark disputes , Billy ’s alter ego , which was in the beginning Captain Marvel , was prevented from having his name used as a title in anything the character starred in . Captain Marvel became Shazampermanently when the character was rebooted along with the DC Universe in theNew 52 , ceding the Captain Marvel name to Marvel once and for all . While it disappointed some fans , the raw rendering at last gave Billy a name of his own .

And yet , in creating a new position quo , an entirely new job for the untried torpedo and his ally emerged . In DC ’s novel persistence , Billy shares his power with his foster family , each one becoming a Shazam - similar hero when they utter the charming word . But a problem came to light in Geoff Johns and Dale Eaglesham’sShazam # 1.The Shazam Familyis on a field head trip when a robbery breaks out , forcing the Kyd to become their heroic material body and save the day . The kids easily take caution of the criminals , but the real trouble comes when they examine to enclose thing up with the law . One ship’s officer asks for their names and for who ’s in charge , but it ’s blatantly manifest that the kids do n’t have an solvent for either . Even worse , Darla blurts out Mary ’s name , stimulate Mary to speculate that having codenames would make thing a peck easier .
Fortunately , the name topic will be slightly resolved whenMary becomes the fresh champ Shazam . Granted , that still leaves Freddie , Darla , Eugene , Pedro and , ironically Billy without a name of their own . It ’s thwarting that characters that have existed since theNew 52nearly a decade ago still do n’t have names , but the new era of a new whiz presents an opportunity to decline this long - standing oversight .
One of the most challenging share of the Shazam legacy is that it ’s always been a family attempt . Whether its the family the poor boy are born with or the family unit they choose , the bonds the small fry share are what give the Shazam Family their unique identity . Mary taking over as Shazamis an interesting direction , but it should n’t arrive at the disbursement of her sib . Eugene , Darla and Pedro are wondrous additions to the Shazam cast and deserve right hero identicalness of their own . Mary ’s always been portrayed as an anchor for Billy to cue him of his family , and now that she ’s in the spotlight , she has the opportunity to move up up her buddy and baby and potentially get everyone the identity they merit . No matter who in the end winds up asShazam , blank should be made for all the kids to shine as fighter of their own .
