Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
Summary
Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalkerrepeated one of the worstStar Warsprequel trilogy decisions , and it meant a terrible end for two ofStar Wars’best characters . While the continuation trilogy , The Rise of Skywalkerin particular proposition , received significant critique , with some view the sequels amongStar Wars’worst pic , the prequel trilogy is broadly speaking more darling . However , The Rise of Skywalkerand the prequel trilogy ’s final picture , Star Wars : Episode III - Revenge of the Sith , share one fatal defect that undersell the stories of two ofStar Wars’greatest heroes .
The Rise of Skywalkerholds a significant place amongStar Wars’movies and TV showsas the last episode of the Skywalker Saga , which meant concluding the story ofStar Warsmainstay Princess Leia Organa . Unfortunately , following on the heels of the controversial conclusion of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker ’s stories in theStar Warssequel trilogy , Princess Leia ’s expiry also became contentious . In fact , many of the issues with Princess Leia ’s dying inThe Rise of Skywalkerconnect straight with her female parent ’s death inRevenge of the Sith — for the sorry .
Princess Leia did n’t precisely have the easygoing liveliness , hurt plenty of tribulations over her larger-than-life life of service to the Star Wars galaxy .
Padmé And Leia Both Die For Someone Else’s Redemption
Although in very unlike ways , both Padmé and Leia , two ofStar Wars’most important cleaning woman , die for someone else ’s redemption . In Leia ’s case , this happens much more directly . InThe Rise of Skywalker , Leia elects to give her life history as a net act to save her Word Ben Solo and win over him to give back to the light side of the Force . Ultimately , she succeeds , but it comes at a terrible price , which only becomes more devastating when Ben perish concisely after .
Although in very unlike ways , both Padmé and Leia , two ofStar Wars’most important woman , die for someone else ’s redemption .
However , in Leia ’s case , this was partially due to outside divisor . Between film forStar war : The Last JediandThe ascension of Skywalker , Carrie Fisher tragically and rather suddenly passed away . The Rise of Skywalkerseemed deeply impacted by her loss , particularly because the sequels had been construct upon Leia ’s story . However , for Padmé , outside factors were n’t quite the trouble ; in fact , while Padmé ’s expiry interestingly mirrored her daughter ’s , it was made all the regretful by the nature of her dying and the fact that her theatrical role arc had more wriggle room than Leia ’s .

Although Luke had no memories of his mother , and Leia said she only commemorate images and tactile sensation , Padmé did n’t needs have to die by the end of the prequels . Even if death had to be her destiny , though , the way Padmé died was a ill service to her quality . While Padmé did n’t actively give her life to redeem Anakin , she kick the bucket with her very last words being not about her life or her child but about how Anakin , who had just attacked her , was still good , prove the foundation for his eventual redemption .
Star Wars Leading Ladies Are More Than Plot Devices
What make this connectedness between mother and daughter all the more dreadful is that their end do n’t reflect the characters as a whole or evenStar Wars’treatment of them . In fact , Leia and Padmé are some ofStar Wars’fiercest , heady , and most dear characters . Padmé was first queen of Naboo and then a passionate senator , and Leia croak on to lead not only the Rebellion but also the Resistance , effectively saving the Galax urceolata twice . GivenStar Wars’clear support of the reference , this choice is all the more perplexing .
in the end , what Padmé and Leia do is incredibly heroic and altruistic , both of which are befitting of their personalities and character electric arc . However , these two intertwined plot point also relegate Leia and Padmé to short more than plot devices , pushing someone else ’s account of redemption further . So , while this was in a unknown way a fresh moment of connection between mother and girl , this ending for Leia inThe Rise of Skywalkerwas nevertheless a dissatisfactory repeat of Padmé ’s ending inRevenge of the Sith .
