Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

The most controversial aspect ofStar Wars : The Rise of Skywalkermade this one line fromStar war : Episode III - Revenge of the Siththe gross foreshadowing . TheStar Warssequel trilogy continue divisive amongStar Warsmovies and TV show , with many still look at all three to be amongStar Wars’worst picture , althoughThe Rise of Skywalkerin particular . There were admittedlyproblems with the sequel trilogy , but perhaps the single braggy unfavorable judgment of all was the poorly explain resurrection of Emperor Palpatine .

This return was a true shock , not only because Palpatine seemed sustain to be dead , but also because neitherStar warfare : The Force AwakensnorStar Wars : The Last Jedihad given any indication that the story was headed in this focus . This is likely because a Palpatine Resurrection of Christ was n’t the original plan — after all , the trilogy changed hands multiple time , making one clear arc difficult . Even so , one minuscule line fromRevenge of the Sithhas made thisRise of Skywalkertwist seem as though it had been foreshadowed all along .

Revenge Of The Sith Confirms That Someone Isn’t Officially Dead Until There’s A Body

Palpatine Knows Yoda Isn’t Dead Because His Body Wasn’t Found

InRevenge of the Sith , Yoda and Palpatine had a net confrontation that rivaled Obi - Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker ’s battle on Mustafar in term of a brilliant lightsaber fight . In the death , though , Yoda pull away from his duel with Palpatine , escaping through the vent once he realized he was unable to vote out the Sith Lord at that metre . Unaware of where Yoda had go or what had take place to him , Palpatine put his clon troopers to search for him .

It makes sense that Palpatine ’s priority would be finding Yoda , dead or alive , as Yoda surviving would be — and was — a major threat to Palpatine ’s power to hold onto his newfound power . However , the clones reported back that there was"no sign"of Yoda ’s body . In reaction , Mas Amedda said,“Then he is not beat . “Palpatine understandably agreed , as he then overlook the clones to double up their search . This one minor comment from Mas Amedda is ironically the unadulterated foreshadowing of Palpatine ’s inevitable return , even if the two were in no way connected at the time .

Clone Protocol Order 66 make once - loyal Clone troopers in Star Wars to pass over out the Jedi , but a handful manage to live on this initial purging .

Mas Amedda And Palpatine Were Technically Right

Star Wars Has Repeatedly Proven That The “Dead” Can Come Back If There Was No Body

Seemingly , this exchange between Mas Amedda , Palpatine , and the clone base a rule inStar war — one that the dealership has since held fast to . Historically ( now ) , ifStar Warshasn’t shown a character ’s dead consistence , then they are reasonable game to lend back . This is most evidently true with Palpatine ’s Christ’s Resurrection inThe Rise of Skywalker , piss thisRevenge of the Sithmoment all the more prescient , butPalpatine is far from the onlyStar Warscharacter to reelect after they seemed to have die .

IfStar Warshasn’t shown a character ’s dead soundbox , then they are fair game to lend back .

Also on this list of shockingly resurrected characters who ' fail ' inStar Warscanon are Boba Fett , Darth Maul , and even Asajj Ventress . In all three subject , their end seemed quite certain . Ventress did n’t drop dead on screen inStar Wars , but her canyon death occurred in the bookStar Wars : Dark Disciple , written by Christie Golden . Darth Maul was magnificently cut down in one-half by Obi - Wan inStar Wars : Episode I - The Phantom Menace , and Boba Fett had seemed to meet a gruesome close inReturn of the Jediwhen he come into the Sarlacc nether region .

Like Palpatine , these characters ' physical structure were never bear witness on screen , leaving the door opened for their getting even . Oddly enough , this comment from Mas Amedda inRevenge of the Siththerefore offer up a justification for Palpatine ’s return long before that bend was ever revealed inThe wage hike of Skywalker . The one trifle would be that Palpatine did die inReturn of the Jedi ; he just managed to render via effect - sensitive clone . Nevertheless , this one minorStar Wars : Episode III - Revenge of the Sithscene finally became the perfect foreshadowing forStar Wars : The Rise of Skywalker’sbig twist .
