Although this audacity nets Todd a tenure as Robin , his relationship with Batmanis far more contentious and confrontational than his predecessor , Dick Grayson . InWayne Family Adventures # 34 , " Recovery , " each member of the Bat - Family is tasked with keeping Bruce Wayne resting in layer after he takes a cruel beating during a mission . Although Batman is finally able to annul the sleepless eye of Damian , Nightwing , and Alfred and make it all the way down to the Batcave , Jason Todd is one stone’s throw ahead of him . Cheerfully brandish a tyre iron , he reveals to Batman ’s shock that he ’s alreadystolen the wheels off the Batmobileand every other vehicle housed in the cave , and Batman is forced to concede defeat .
Not only is this move a thoroughgoing encapsulation of Todd ’s cocky mental attitude and dash , but it ’s also a brilliant recall to how he and Batman first met .
