After Dick Grayson left to become Nightwing and focus more on the Titans , Batman encountered an orphan on the streets of Gotham , name Jason Todd . Needing a new partner and wanting to set Jason down a well course , he took him in and began training him asthe unexampled Robin , something Nightwing seemed initially apprehensive aboutand even warn Bruce for what little education Jason seems to have . Eventually , Dick displace onto a more wise man role and even invest Jason his old Robin costume , as seen inWhite Gold and Truth . The few interaction seen between Nightwing and Jason only make it all the more tragic that readers never really become to see their friendly relationship forward motion . Resolutionwould be the last time they interact before Jason ’s untimely death . At the meter of his dying , Dick was out in distance , on the planet Tamaran , which explains why Bruce could n’t contact him when it fall out , but it does n’t explain why Bruce did n’t meet him , at all .
InNew Teen Titans # 55by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez , Nightwing found out about Jason ’s death through a mutual Titan , the perpetually arrogant and callous Danny Chase . Nightwing would after habituate Jason ’s death to justify firing Danny . Joker is eventually resuscitated by Batman , but it still shows the genial topographic point Dick was in that he willingly and easy broke the Batfamily ’s number one ruler : No Killing . The trauma of Jason ’s expiry stayed with Nightwing for a farseeing time , he felt like since he left the post of Robin , Jason was leave to take up the mantle which put him in line to be killed .
