Star Trek: Voyager

Tim Russ’Star Trek : Voyagercharacter was always so consistently levelheaded that it was strange to see him act in any other way than as a traditionally placid Vulcan , which made the scene where Tuvok killed a fellow phallus of his ship ’s gang specially torturesome . Tuvok’sStar Trektimelinetakes him through several challenges , and many of them do n’t cause him to lose his composure in any notable way . However , one sequence pushed Tuvok to his absolute limit , and it still stool me uneasy to watch the installment ’s most shameful scenery .

Tim Russ ' Tuvok was one of the ever - present figures among theStar Trek : Voyagercast . He appeared heavily inevery season ofStar Trek : Voyager , and routinely had entire installment work up around his fiber . Watching his moral force with other appendage of the Voyager crew grow and variety was one of the most riveting aspects of Tuvok ’s character arc , butthere was one figure in particular whom Tuvok often struggled to support . Although a genuine friendship did finally develop between them , Voyagerproved in time of year 2 just how strenuous their interactions could be for Tuvok .

Tuvok Killed Neelix In Star Trek: Voyager “Meld” - With A Twist

Tuvok testing himself with a holographic Neelix suggests an upsetting truth about their relationship

The tangible Neelix wants nothing more than to break down the rampart between them , and " Meld " proves just what he was up against in this respect .

One of the most weighty elements of Tuvix ’s holographic murder conniption is just why he chose to simulate Neelix . Russ ' type was testing himself to see if he could maintain his composure in the font of what he render as an fantastically irritating scenario . take Neelix as the character to fit that description confirms thatTuvok find it very difficult to be in Neelix ’s mien , and cogitate the gabby Talaxian was infuriating . Inversely , the real Neelix want nothing more than to demote down the wall between them , and " Meld " prove just what he was up against in this respect .

“Meld” Was Still Early Days For Tuvok & Neelix’s Star Trek: Voyager Friendship

Tuvok & Neelix did eventually go on to become more than colleagues

The ever - changing dynamic between Tuvok and Neelix is one of my favoriteStar Trek : Voyagermini - arcs . Pretty much forthwith after they match , Neelix starts trying to regain ways to link with Tuvok , as he find the Vulcan ’s immovable behaviour oddly compelling . The Talaxian gradually makes progression in making Tuvok his booster rather than just a co-worker , but it pretty much take seven straight season of Neelix chipping away at Tuvok ’s armour . In " Meld , " the twain have only known each other for roughly a twelvemonth .

The story did n’t cease when Star Trek : Voyager ’s titulary vas reached home in " Endgame , " and the franchise has revealed far more about Janeway ’s crew .

Thankfully , Tuvok did n’t actually kill Neelix , although the Vulcan ’s experimentation on Voyager ’s holodeck prove how possible such an natural event was . alternatively , Tuvok care to return to his old self and continue to be ambushed at every turn by Neelix ’s friendship until eventually he finally had to grant that he like him . Tuvok and Neelix ’s farewell five years later still make me emotional , as they each say goodbye in ways perfectly befitting of the other ’s preference . Tuvok offers a modest dance , and Neelix set aside the moment to shine by staying mum .

Tuvok Wasn’t To Blame For Irrationally Hating Neelix In Star Trek: Voyager’s “Meld”

Tuvok’s mind meld with Lon Suder backfired

Neelix may not have been Tuvok ’s favourite soul when " Meld " was set , but it would be a bit of a stretch to lay claim that a all the way - head version of Russ ' character would want to murder the Talaxian in cold blood . Instead , Tuvok was suffering the effects of a Vulcan idea meld with Crewman Lon Suder(Brad Dourif ) . After discovering Suder had murdered a fellow crew member for seemingly no reasonableness , a judgement meld was Tuvok ’s final cause to help him translate the motive of Dourif ’s theatrical role . It worked , but it also backfire .

I do n’t think the mind meld remove Tuvok ’s tolerance of Neelix , but rather massively intensified how much he dislike being around the Talaxian .

While Suder flourished by inheriting some of Tuvok ’s inner - peace after joining mind with Voyager ’s boss of security system , the Vulcan undervalue just how deeply the other adult male ’s darkness ran , and he was unable to curb the violent urge that had crossed over into his head . So , I do n’t think the mind meld dispatch Tuvok ’s tolerance of Neelix , but rather massively intensified how much he disliked being around the Talaxian to the level where he was unable to assure the itch he had inadvertently advance from Dourif’sStar Trek : Voyagercharacter .
