However , he finally realizes he ca n’t revive him if it mean he comes back as a monster .
In Tom King’sBatmanrun back in 2019 , Batman ’s truehearted pantryman and Padre figure was murdered at the hands of Bane , as the scoundrel notice if he could n’t break the Dark Knight physically , he ’d break him emotionally . Tragically , Damian Wayne was forced to watch Bane snap Alfred Pennyworth ’s neckin a moment that caused permanent trauma and infliction to the vernal hero , as the one gentleman he trust was killed in front of him . Damian ’s injury lead his family relationship to further fracture from his father and focalize his pain and sadness into anger as he participate in the deadly Lazarus Tournament . Now that the tourney is over , Damian returned to Gotham with one delegation : bring Alfred back from the numb .

InRobin#12 by Joshua Williamson , Roger Cruz , Norm Rapmund , Luis Guerrero , and ALW ’s Troy Peteri , Damian Wayne arrives in Gotham City from Lazarus Island after stealing his mother Talia al Ghul ’s airship . Robin is surprised to larn Batman is n’t in Gotham and immediately head to the Gotham Cemetery . In an excited scene , Robin put his mitt on Alfred Pennyworth ’s tombstoneand assure him he failed the one person who always treated him with obedience . Then , he pulls out the Lazarus resin and says he can cook the tragic post . After battling his real internal monster ( thanks to the side - effects of the magic on Lazarus Island ) , Damian realizes he ca n’t go through with the Resurrection of Christ , and Alfred need to stay dead - at least until he can see a right room to bring him back .
Upon his mother Talia al Ghul finding him , Robin admits that he could n’t anathemize Alfred by resurrecting the Lazarus resin - as theresin brings back the at peace as undead versionsof their preceding self . Damian does n’t want to revive Alfred , just to bring him back as a ogre . It ’s a heartbreaking realisation as Robin fully realize the cost of bringing Pennyworth back is too much for anyone to cover .
While comic deaths are n’t lasting , and it seems like it ’s only a thing of sentence before Alfred is convey back , Robin wants to ensure his return , if possible , is done correctly . Using the Lazarus Resin to uprise him would create more problem and trauma for him and Batman , as he would come back a shell of his former ego . If Robin is going to find a way to bringAlfred Pennyworthback , he will need to do it the right elbow room . So , for now , the popular DC Comics poor boy stays drained .
