Black Mask ’s gimmick was late called out in the one - off specialDC vs. Vampires : Huntersby Matthew Rosenberg and Neil Googe . " There ’s just not much to his gimmick that warrants him give birth a cool vampire form .
DC has tried to rectify Black Mask since the New 52 began to make him stand out more . Black Mask has been give superpowerslike hypnosis and the power to take the strain of other heroes minus their powers . Still , it ’s not enough because he does n’t have much to accompany the masquerade that he fag out . To the vampires in the DC universe , he ’s see as less because he does n’t have as much potential drop as a vampiric hero or villain with strong big businessman . They even make him the official receptionist that Damian must get through for speak to Nightwing , bringing him down from his offence boss status and essentially testify that he ’s view more as carom fodder that can warn them of danger . His vampiric abilities ca n’t enhance a gimmick that essentially just makes him a normal lamia with a mask on , so it ’s salutary to make him a pawn rather than something of import .
